SMART CRY surprised at Kembla, showing a clean pair of heels on a heavy track, and over 1000m, a distance, on breeding, which would seem to be too short for her. Making light work of the rain affected track, SMART CRY jumped best from an outside gate, but not having the speed to lead, was eased back by jockey Dylan Gibbons, and settled in the last pair. Coming to the turn, Dylan moved to the centre of the track, and under hands and heels to the 200m mark, quickly reeled them in. A couple from the persuader on her rump then saw her put 2 lengths on them, then eased down at the 50m to win by a length. Dylan was full of praise in the effort, saying “ she has a great attitude, wants to be a racehorse, and has a bright future ahead of her”. Trainer, Jason Coyle, will look for another start for her later in the month.

TORQUIN is having no luck in finding a suitably dry track to run on, and tomorrow, at Muswellbrook, now a heavy 10, will more than likely see her scratched. Disappointing as she needs to go to the races, and we may have to give her a run to maintain her fitness level. Scone, on Tuesday 19th August, seems likely to be the next suitable race, a 1300m Maiden.

Congratulations to Bjorn and staff for a great year, Bjorn’s best since coming to Australia. Off on a busman’s holiday, going to France to look at horses for a couple of weeks.

Have a top week.
